The Art and Alzheimer's program is a series of events, organized in collaboration with the Alzheimer.s Association, using the arts to increase public awareness and understanding of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Based on the overwhelming response from the public, we have dedicated this section of our web site to answer the many questions we have received from those who attended these events and to provide additional information to those who expressed interest in learning more.

Demolition Derby: when a mind loses its license to drive
New York City Premiere, One Night Only!
The Gerald W. Lynch Theater, New York City, NY
Friday, November 2, 2007 at 6:30 pm
Demolition Derby is a unique, multimedia, dance-theater performance that will take you on a 70-minute journey into the heart, mind, and soul of a son as dementia consumes his parents. Created by performer/choreographer Erik Stern, Demolition Derby was inspired by Stern's experiences caring for both parents over the course of many years. From this platform, Erik created Demolition Derby to more fully explore and share his care giving experience utilizing what he knows best–dance as a means to communicate what words alone cannot possibly express. All proceeds benefit the Alzheimer's Association, New York City Chapter.

- What was the Utermohlen art exhibit and lecture event and how was Myriad involved?
Myriad was pleased to be the supporter of the art exhibition (The Later Works of William Utermohlen) and its corresponding lecture (Portraits & Promises in Alzheimer's Disease), which took place in October 2006 at the New York Academy of Medicine in New York City. This educational program was designed to utilize art as a means to inform and inspire the public to learn more about Alzheimer's disease. Myriad was also very honored that the Alzheimer's Association, New York City Chapter, served as the host for these events.
We at Myriad are dedicated to researching new therapies designed to change the course of Alzheimer's disease and to developing novel educational programs to garner greater public awareness and understanding of this pending epidemic.
Thank you for your interest in this important educational initiative and for your continued interest in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
